Our Black Book selection for October is Octavia's Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements, edited Walidah Imarisha and adrienne maree brown. Whenever we envision a world without war, without prisons, without capitalism, we are producing speculative fiction. Organizers and activists envision, and try to create, such worlds all the time. Walidah Imarisha and adrienne maree brown have brought twenty of them together in the first anthology of short stories to explore the connections between radical speculative fiction and movements for social change.
Pick up a copy of Octavia's Brood at your local library, at our partners, Magers and Quinn, or at your local independent bookstore. Join us at the Resistance and Rebellion convening for editors Imarisha and brown's panel discussion and book signing.
Look for our new podcast, launching in October, and listen along to the Oct. 28th book club discussion of Octavia's Brood, hosted by cultural producers-in-residence Junauda Petrus and Erin Sharkey.
